Masked ball in Czech Home in Rijeka
The Czech people of Rijeka did not even try to keep away from the carnival atmosphere in Rijeka and surroundings. They joined carnival festivities by organizing a masked ball on February 6 in the T. G. Masaryk Czech Home. Young or old, at least one person from each Czech family in Rijeka as well as their many friends came to the Home dressed as Mexicans, witches, ballerinas, flowers, Japanese, chefs, Supermen, Spidermen, grandmothers, wizards and even hospital patients. To make everyone comfortable, the "great mage" Fanika Husak had to come up with a source of heat, and many of her sorcerers arranged for tables filled with food and drinks. The carnival could not start until the masks received the right to rule the Home. Therefore, President Husak, exceptionally for this one night, symbolically gave them the keys to the building. After that, there was nothing else left to do but to have fun, dance, and enjoy oneself.
There was also an amusing and entertaining ruffle organized during the evening. Since everyone won a prize, and the prizes were nice and valuable, everyone went home happy and with their hands full.
The masks were eager to hear the results of the committee vote on the best mask of the evening. The winners truly deserved the title and great prizes. The most imaginative costumes were thought out and made at home. The ballerina family won the first prize, Japanese family the second, and the Mexican couple the third prize. Little witches were voted most beautiful children's mask.
