Czech library opened in Rijeka
A new, well equipped library opened on December 20, 2009, in T. G. Masaryk Czech Home in Rijeka. It holds 2500 Czech books that Czech Beseda Rijeka received from the Czech Republic, its members, Czech Beseda Zagreb and Czech Union in Croatia.
At the opening ceremony, CB Rijeka president Fanika Husak first invited everyone into the library where she briefly described how the library was established. A young professor of Croatian language and literature Maja Juretić entered all the books into the computer program, with help of CB Rijeka members Fanika Husak and Drahuška Munić who sorted all the books alphabetically by author. Mrs. Juretić spoke of how the library is set up, the books it contains, and invited everyone to visit as often as possible.
Herta Tadić then read two of her poems in their original, Czech form. Maja Juretić interpreted the same poems in Croatian translation by Vera Badurina.
Later, a surprise was set up in the big hall. The youngest CB Rijeka dancers, "Račići," lead by Vladimira Marinković, presented a lovely dance and acting program called "Fairytales for the 21st century."
