Czech Home formal opening and celebration of Czech Beseda Rijeka 15th anniversary
Czech Home T.G. Masaryk in Rijeka was officially opened on September 19, 2009, exactly 5 years since the beginning of construction. It was the best present to the Czech people of Rijeka for their jubilee, the 15th anniversary of Czech Beseda Rijeka founding.
Celebrations were sponsored by the Czech Republic Parliament Senate, Croatian Government, City of Rijeka, National minorities council of Croatian government, Czech Union in Croatia, the representative of Czech and Slovak minorities in Croatian Parliament Zdenka Čuhnjil, and the Primorsko-goranska County.
Present at the celebration were many special guests, including:
- Minister of science, education and sport Radovan Fuchs,
- Czech Ambassador to Croatia Karel Kühnl,
- vice president of the Permanent committee for Czech emigrants of the Czech Parliament Senate Tomáš Grulich,
- Head of Primorsko-goranska County Zlatko Komadina,
- representative of Czech and Slovak minorities in Croatian Parliament Zdenka Čuhnjil,
- Secretary of Czech Union in Croatia Jara Kulhavi,
- previous Czech Ambassador to Croatia Petr Burianek,
- representative for Czech emigrants in the Czech Ministry of foreign affairs Vladimir Eisenbruck,
- member of the Permanent committee for Czech emigrants of the Czech Parliament Jan Nadvornik
- deputy Ambassador of Czech Republic in Croatia Petr Štěpánek,
- Cultural Attaché at Czech Embassy in Croatia Jindra Mala,
- mayors of several Czech cities and municipalities – Mr.Karpišek and Mr. Kutej from Ostrava, Mr. Koupal from Rimov, Mr. Kleveta from Bilovice nad Svitavou,
- mayor of Daruvar Dalibor Rohlik,
- vice president of Czech Union in Croatia Libuška Stranik,
- choreographer from Prague Eva Zetova,
- Czech teacher and Czech Beseda Rijeka bulletin lector Zdena Steckerova,
- leader of Rimov carnival group Pavel Zika,
- presidents and members of many Czech Besedas from all parts of Croatia,
- Heads of City and County departments, and many others.

Czech Beseda Rijeka president Fanika Husak welcomed all guests and thanked them for their help and financial support for Czech Home construction. She especially thanked all Czech Beseda Rijeka members for hundreds of hours of volunteer work on the building. City of Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel officially opened the Czech Home.
At the beginning of the official program, singing choirs Nostalgia (Czech Beseda Rijeka), Marinići and Hlubina sang Croatian and Czech anthems. Other participants in the program were folklore ensembles Zvir from Jelenje (Croatia) and Hlubina from Ostrava (Czech Republic), Czech Beseda Sisak singing choir, and all three Czech Beseda Rijeka folk dance groups.
The fact that so many people support and respect our small community is great gift and honor for Czech Beseda Rijeka. For this we thank everyone for their help and support and are looking forward to furthering our cooperation and finishing our great work – T. G. Masaryk Czech Home in Rijeka.
