Czech Beseda Rijeka Annual Assembly
The annual assembly of Czech Beseda Rijeka took place on Sunday, April 19, 2009, in the great hall of the Czech Home in Rijeka. About 80 Beseda members were present at the assembly, along with their guests. Presidency leading the event consisted of Snježana Herceg, Josip Munić and Božidar Selichar.
Besides the members of CB Rijeka, several guests were present at the assembly: deputy of the Cezch Union in Croatia Mr. Šoufek from Czech Beseda Zagreb, deputy of Czech Beseda Lipovac Marija Res, more than 20 members of Czech Beseda Lipovac and a journalist of Croatian Czech weekly magazine " Jednota."
The assembly started with a moment of silence in memory of CB Rijeka members that passed away during the past year: Jaroslav Husak, Ela Biličević and Vladimir Marinković.
In her annual report, President Fanika Husak reminded of the most important activities and events that happened in the past year (you can read more about them on our web site and in our bulletin). Once again she thanked all the people who came to work on the unfinished building of the Czech Home, all members of three dance groups, choir, theatre group and the information/publishing staff. She also informed about plans for the following period. Very soon we expect to receive the partial usage license for the finished sections of the Czech Home. We also plan to set up and open the library, finish and rent out the restaurant and install heating in the Home. Recently, young family Gašparovski moved in the studio apartment in the Home. They will perform janitorial and housekeeping duties. We were very happy to hear that the Government of the Republic of Croatia recently donated 150,000 Kuna to be used for finishing the building, and the National Minorities Council donated 20,000 Kuna to our bulletin "Our Word." Soon we also expect to receive about 90,000 Kuna from the Czech Union in Croatia.
Leaders of each group (S. Husak, F. Husak, T. Rehak, M. Dmejhal, S. Herceg and J. Herceg) gave reports of their work. Secretary D. Selichar gave financial report and D. Milde gave the supervisory committee report. B. Selichar gave report of membership payments – over 120 members paid membership for 2008, and so far about a hundred paid in 2009.
An open discussion followed the reports. Mr. Vlado Lončarić, the husband of the Czech teacher who was absent, said a few good words about the classes of Czech language of the elementary school Podmurvice. The classes are still very successful, taking place twice a week in the Czech Home, and attended by about a dozen children and three adults. The guests, Mr. Šoufek and Ms. Res, also spoke to the assembly and wished success. On the initiative of S. Husak, the members decided to meet in the Home once a month, not for work or rehearsals, but to just spend some free time together and further their friendships.
After the discussion, the members voted on the proposal to change two articles of Czech Beseda Rijeka statute, and accepted them:
- Article 31, point 3 is changed to: In case Czech Beseda Rijeka ceases to exist, after the legal procedure, all property will be given 50% to the Czech Union in Croatia and 50% to the local community i.e. the City of Rijeka.
- The Czech Home in Rijeka is called ČESKÝ DŮM T. G. MASARYKA – CZECH HOME OF T. G. MASARYK (Tomáš Garrique Masaryk (1850. –1937.) – Czech politician, statesmen, philosopher and sociologist).
Supervisory Committee: Darinka Milde, Jasna Herceg, Erika Klepo.
Secretary: Dušanka Selichar
Treasurer: Herta Tadić
Membership treasurer: Dobrila Řehák
The elections came next and were done without any problems. Mrs. Fanika Husak was again unanimously elected President. Vice presidents are Snježana Herceg and Franjo Sedlaček. Members of Steering Committee and Supervising Committee were also elected, as were the delegates for the annual assembly of the Czech Union in Croatia.
After the official part of the evening ended, the young actors from Lipovac entertained and cheered everyone up with a great performance of the two-act theatre play "Correctional Institution." After that, everyone had a light dinner – delicious cakes and cookies made by CB Rijeka members, cold drinks and coffee.
