Czech amateur theatre festival
In Czech village Lipovac, near Daruvar, the 22nd Czech amateur theatre festival took place on March 13 and 14. Ten amateur theatre groups from Doljani, Daruvar, Virovitica, Garešnica, Treglava, Lipovac, Slavonski Brod, Sisak, Rijeka and Zagreb performed in two evenings.
What they presented were one-act plays, monologues or parts of longer theatre acts, mostly comedies. There were plays written by Czech authors – the original ones and the ones adapted to our times – as well as pieces of Croatian Czech writers.
Amateur theatre has a long tradition among the Czech people living in Croatia. The minority members work in all sorts of conditions, some are very experienced and some are beginners, but they gladly come together at rehearsals to spend time together, practice and work on preservation of Czech language and culture in Croatia.
Three judges watched all plays and picked three best performances to be played on March 23 for the Croatian national selector of amateur theatre. The winners were groups from Daruvar, Doljani and Sisak. The national selector will decide which of the three will perform at the 2009 National amateur theatre review in Kastav.
The theatre group from Rijeka gave a good performance of two-act Karel Piskor play "Rejuvenated Grandpa." They acted very well, and the full auditorium was thrilled.
