Children to Rijeka 2008
As a part of the celebration of St. Vid, the patron saint of Rijeka, Czech Beseda Rijeka organized the first festival "Children to Rijeka" on June 14. The festival took place in the new Czech home, with more than 150 participants under the age of 15. Czech Beseda Rijeka president F. Husak said that this was the way for the Czech Beseda to thank the city of Rijeka and Primorsko-goranska County for their continuous support.
Young singers, musicians, dancers and actors from Czech societies from Zagreb, Bjelovar, Daruvar, Končanica and Rijeka performed at the festival. Children of our county were represented by students of elementary schools Pehlin, Podmurvice and Trsat from Rijeka and little dancers, musicians and singers from cultural society Zvir from Jelenje.
Mrs. Branka Renko-Silov, head of the city department of education, welcomed all guests and participants on behalf of the City of Rijeka. Mrs. Elida Ružić, member of the county government did the same on behalf of Primorsko-goranska County.
The audience was very satisfied with all performances – those representing Czech culture, as well as those representing the local culture of Rijeka area. Numbers in Czech and in the local dialect were taking turns in the program. At the end of this interesting two-hour program, the final act was impressive – all performers sang the song "Najdraža Rijeko" (My dearest Rijeka) together.
The children showed a lot in their performances, but also in their manners and the ability to follow the instructions given to them. They left the festival happy, not only because their performances were great, but also because they met many new friends and saw the results of their hard work. After the program they had some time to socialize over the dinner, beverages and deserts prepared by the members of Czech Beseda Rijeka.
Because the festival was a big success with the audience, the performers and their leaders, Czech Beseda Rijeka members are hoping it will keep going in the years to come and become a tradition.
