"Ribice" danced at symposium in Opatija
International conference "Krmiva 2008" (Animal feed 2008) took place on June 2-5 in hotel Ambassador in Opatija. It was sponsored by Croatian Ministry of agriculture, fishing and rural development and Ministry of science, education and sports. The conference was organized by the company "Krmiva d.o.o." from Zagreb in cooperation with the University of Zagreb College of Agronomy and College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Osijek College of Agriculture, Biotechnical College of Domžale (Slovenia), University of Kaposvar (Hungary), Akademia Rolnitza Wroclaw (Poland), University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno (Czech Republic), College of Agriculture and College of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina), College of Agriculture in Skopje (Macedonia).
The Czech minority parliament representative Mrs. Zdenka Čuhnil participated in the conference as an expert in agriculture. In previous years she presented several papers and participated in conference organization, and this year she received an acknowledgement for her work. Mrs. Čuhnil managed to carry out another idea – to give the conference a Czech feeling and emphasis. For the last 15 years, longer than any other country, the Czech Republic has been contributing to the conference . The attaché of Czech embassy in Croatia Mr. Tomáš Kuchta welcomed everyone on behalf of the Czech Republic at the conference opening ceremony. The social evening on June 2nd also had a Czech feel to it. Riječke Ribice, the Czech Beseda Rijeka dance group, danced for the audience, and the Daruvar brewery donated Czech beer for this occasion.
The international guests could taste Croatian traditional delicacies from all parts of our country and see a short program. Croatian music was presented by the female singing group (klapa) Luka from Rijeka, while Czech Beseda Rijeka dancers presented Czech folklore. For conference participants coming from the Czech Republic, the performance of Ribice was a special and very pleasant surprise. After the program, they spent some time with the members of Czech Beseda Rijeka and Mrs. Čuhnil, talking about how Czech culture, dances, language and tradition is preserved in Croatia.
