Folklore event – Vonička
Vonička, a folklore gathering of Czech people living in Croatia, took place on November 24 in Daruvar. Dancers, singers and poetry interpreters from 23 Czech societies participated in the event. The dancers came from Bjeliševac, Bjelovar, Doljani, Daruvar, Hercegovac, Jazvenik, Kaptol, Končanica, Rijeka, Veliki and Mali Zdenci, Treglava and Zagreb; the narrators from Ivanovo Selo, Dežanovac and Strežani; and the singers from Lipovac, Slavonski Brod, Lipovljani, Daruvar, Gornji Daruvar, Brestov and Prekopakra. Some of them were accompanied by music bands from their besedas.
It was a magnificent event – a show of results of the year's work, constant enrichment of cultural life of Czech people in Croatia, preservation of language and traditions. At the same time, Vonička is an opportunity for members of almost all Czech Besedas in Croatia to meet (only three Czech societies did not participate in this year's Vonička). These societies are connected through the Czech language, music, songs and folklore.
One of distinguished guests at Vonička was the ambassador of the Czech Republic in Croatia, Mr. Karel Kühnl, who took the chance to meet so many active Croatian Czechs for the first time and find out more about their cultural work.
Czech Beseda Rijeka was represented by the adult group of dancers (married couples). Among the predominantly young dancers, they looked elegant and dignified dancing the mazurka and špacirka. A big applause was the reward for their appearance.
