The 9th Cultural and Artistic Event – Cultural work of the national minorities in Croatia
The 9th annual "Cultural work of the national minorities of Croatia" event took place on November 5, 2006, at 7 PM in the Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall in Zagreb. The Croatian government National Minorities Council organized the event, sponsored by the Government of the Republic of Croatia.
Aleksandar Tolnauer, the President of the National Minorities Council, and Jadranka Kosor, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of the Family, Veterans' Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity, welcomed the guests and opened the program. Many ambassadors from the minorities' homelands, members of the Parliament, presidents of Government and Parliament offices and organizations, representatives of local government and other distinguished guests attended the event.
Representatives of 16 national minorities, organized to preserve their tradition, culture and language in Croatia, participated in the program. The three hours long concert was inspiring depicting a part of the rich cultural activities of the participating groups. The audience could see and hear the performances of dance and singing groups, choirs and musicians from Italian, German, Jewish, Roma, Montenegran, Macedonian, Russian, Slovak, Czech, Slovene, Bosnian, Albanian, Polish, Hungarian, Serbian and Ruthenian-Ukrainian communities.
The cultural work of the Czech minority in Croatia, organized within the Croatian Czech Union, was presented by the folk dancing group "Riječke ribice" of the Czech Beseda Rijeka, lead by Ms. Snježana Husak. The "Riječke ribice" presented the dance "Formani" by Prague choreographer Eva Zetova, who created this seven-minute dance especially for this dance group. The group also performed this dance in many Croatian towns as well as in the Czech Republic.
