"Riječke Ribice" performed at the meeting of folklore groups in Jelenje – Dražice
Citizens of Jelenje borough celebrated St. Michael's Day with numerous cultural, religious and sporting events. One of them was the 12th meeting of folklore groups "Zatancajmo po domaći," organized by the cultural society "Zvir" from Jelenje. It took place on Saturday, September 23, in Culture Home in Dražice. It was a pleasant meeting of over 200 dancers from seven dance groups, including "Riječke Ribice" of Czech Beseda Rijeka. Besides the "Ribice" and the hosting ensemble "Zvir," there were also dance group "Pearls" from Ohrid, company "Metković," "Šokica" from Slobodnica in Slavonia, "Zora" from Opatija and group "Kamanje."
This was traditionally an event presenting children's dance groups, but this year half of the program was dedicated to adult dancers. "Riječke ribice" are friends with "Zvir" ensemble from the very beginning of their work. Dancers and the leader of "Zvir" Mrs. Alenka Juretić have been helping "Ribice" in practicing traditional Croatian dances. One of the first appearances of "Ribice" took place in Jelenje – Dražice in 1995, when they were still a children's group. They performed at the "Zatancajmo po domaći" festival for several years. Now, after a long time, "Ribice" have visited their friends again. Members of "Zvir" welcomed them, and were pleasantly surprised by the level of their dance performance.
