Czech Beseda Rijeka at folklore festival in České Budějovice and the annual Forman celebration in Kaplice
The 33rd international show "The earth that feeds us," organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic, took place on August 24 through 29 in České Budějovice. A part of this event was a cultural program, including the third South Czech folklore festival " K Budějcům cesta." Members of Czech Beseda Rijeka, the dance group "Riječke Ribice," Adult group of dancers, singing group Nostalgia and the singing trio, participated in this program.
Czech Beseda Rijeka members started their journey to South Czech in the evening of August 24. They have been friends with inhabitants of a small town Římov, who organized their performance at the festival and provided lodging. After they arrived to Římov, they had lunch, and already at 1 PM they performed in the program "Day of Southern Czech," a part of festival "K Budějcům cesta," at one of the stages at České Budějovice fairground.
On the same day, August 25, they went back to Římov for dinner, after which they headed for Český Krumlov. Some of our members had the chance to visit the baroque theatre with rotating audience in the park of the castle and see the comedy "Wives of Jindřich VII." Another group went sightseeing in this beautiful town, entirely protected by UNESCO as a world heritage cultural monument.
On Saturday, August 26, they went to see České Budějovice, lead by their friend Ph.D. Jiřík Radek. They visited the main city square and the church of St. Nicholas. The brave ones climbed the 252 stairs to the belvedere of the Black Tower, enjoying the unforgettable view of the whole area in the beautiful weather.
In the afternoon on the same day they gave a one-hour performance at the yearly festival "Formanské slavnosti" in Kaplice, where they met their friends, members of Agrovanka brass band. A performance at the summer stage in České Budějovice followed, where both dance groups, singing group and the trio all performed, along with groups from České Budějovice, Doudleby and Kamenný Újezd. Dancers and signers from Rijeka received a big applause for their outstanding performances, and the Czech press also gave their impressions.
In the evening they got together with their friends from Římov. The carolers of Římov lead by Pavel Zika, mayor Koupal and other citizens of this friendly small town always make us feel at home. They used this occasion for another exchange of gifts and contributions to the construction of Czech Home in Rijeka.
On Sunday they parted with their friends from Římov and headed back to Rijeka. This was a short but pleasant visit to Southern Czech. Our members brought back many good impressions and memories, with a warm feeling that we will always have good friends in this area.
