Financial contribution of the Czech government to the construction of Czech Culture Center in Rijeka:
Czech Prime Minister Jiøí Paroubek meets Czech minority members in Croatia
During his official visit to Croatia, Czech Prime Minister Jiøí Paroubek spent some time in a meeting with representatives of the Czech minority in Croatia. Czech ambassador to Croatia Petr Burianek organized the meeting on April 24 in the residency of the Czech embassy in Zagreb.
About twenty Croatian Czechs came to see the Prime Minister on this occasion, among them the representative of Czech and Slovak minorities in Croatian Parliament Zdenka Èuhnjil, President of the Czech Union in Croatia Leonora Janota, several Czech Beseda presidents and representatives of National minority councils from certain cities and counties. Delegates from Czech media in Croatia were also present.
Czech Beseda Rijeka was represented by its president Fanyka Husak and the delegate in County minority council Anton Rehak.
Ambassador Burianek welcomed the Prime Minister on behalf of the embassy, and then Mr. Paroubek spoke to the delegates present. On this occasion, he expressed his pleasure to meet delegates of the well organized Czech minority in Croatia, whose work is known and appreciated not only in Croatia, but also in the Czech Republic.
Prime Minister Paroubek pointed out the praiseworthy work of the small Czech Beseda Rijeka, who so far had poor facilities for its cultural and other projects. This is why Czech Beseda Rijeka is building the Czech Culture Center in Rijeka, a building that will be valuable to the Czech people in Rijeka, members of other Czech organizations in Croatia, their friends from the Czech Republic, and the City of Rijeka. He did not forget to mention the priceless help the City of Rijeka and Primorsko-goranska County are giving to Czech Beseda Rijeka, and then he gave Mrs. Husak the following charter:
Government of the Czech Republic has approved by its decision no. 195 on February 22, 2006 the amount of 3,000,000 Czech Koruna for finalization of the first phase of construction of the Czech Culture Center in Rijeka, Croatia, to be paid from the reserve fund of the Czech Republic Ministry of Exterior.
President Husak thanked the Czech government and the Czech embassy, as well as Parliament representative Èuhnjil, Czech Union in Croatia and everybody who contributed to the construction of the Czech home in Rijeka.
After saluting the Czech government, Mrs. Janota also thanked them for all the help they have been giving to the Czech minority in Croatia.
Czech Beseda Rijeka president, Mrs. Husak, gave statements for Czech Radio and Czech Television. She spoke about the work conditions of Czech Beseda Rijeka members, and about the understanding and priceless help the members of this small organization have received from the City of Rijeka, Primorsko-goranska County, the Czech embassy and the Czech summer consulate in Rijeka.
