Carnival group from Římov at the 23rd International Carnival of Rijeka
The carnival group from South Czech, traditional "Římovská koleda," participated in the International Carnival Parade, the final spectacle of the Carnival of Rijeka, for the fourth time. The member of the Římov group are long-time friends with Czech Beseda Rijeka, among the first friends our Beseda has made in the Czech Republic, and kept in touch all this time.
Therefore, the Římov carnival group were not only the guests of the City of Rijeka and the Carnival, but have visited their friends, members of Czech Beseda, as soon as they arrived in Rijeka, in the morning of February 24. Although they were tired from the long night drive, members of the brass orchestra played many well-known Czech songs for their Croatian friends. They went to see the unfinished building of the Czech Culture Center, where they played again on what is to become the main stage.
The Czech guests also gave their hosts an "Original Certificate of Římov Carnival" – they will donate 25 bunk beds for the future rooms in the Czech Home. Later, accompanied by Beseda guide Mr. Božo Selichar, they went to hotel Briston in Lovran, where they were accommodated.
During the Carnival Parade on Sunday, the group from Římov stood out from 8000 masks from about 100 carnival groups, not only by their unique masks, traditional dance, music, and the unavoidable cannon, but also by the Rijeka’s favorite Czech beer that they offered to the crowd and presented it as "the Czech miracle – sea water beer."
After the Parade, our Czech friends did not hurry home, although they were expected to show up at work on Monday morning. They came back to Pehlin to part from their friends, the Czech people of Rijeka. The hosts offered them dinner, the musicians played again, and everybody sang Czech songs and danced. The guests from Czech Republic, as always, hated to say goodbye to Rijeka and the people of this city, and the members of Czech Beseda wished to keep the company of their friends a while longer, but in the early evening hours the separation was inevitable. Both hosts and guests are looking forward to continuation of their cooperation and friendship.
