Singing group "Nostalgia" attends seminar in Varaždinske Toplice
The Czech Beseda Rijeka singing group "Nostalgia" spent a memorable day in Varaždin and Varaždinske Toplice on Saturday, February 11. The third and final seminar about the meaning of Czech folk songs was held there, for members of Czech singing groups and choirs in Croatia. The seminars were organized and financed by Ms. Zdenka Čuhnjil, representative of the Czech and Slovak minorities in Croatian parliament. The goal of these seminars, as Ms. Čuhnjil pointed out, was the preservation of Czech folk singing and Czech language among the members of Czech minority in Croatia.
This time, 115 singers from Jazvenik, Kaptol, Lipovljani, Slavonski Brod, Zagreb and Rijeka met in Varaždin. Members of Czech Beseda Kaptol also participated, although they have not formed a singing group yet.
Upon their arrival in Varaždin, the singers, accompanied by tour guides, took the tour of this beautiful baroque city and visited the famous Varaždin cemetery. After the lunch in Varaždinske Toplice they had the afternoon to themselves. Some used it to swim in the pools of this renowned health resort, others went for a long walk in the resort park, and some spent the time with their friends, the singers from other towns.
After the dinner, there was a meeting of singing groups and choirs, where the work conditions of choirs were discussed. Singers, choir leaders, and conductors exchanged experiences and listened to a lecture on choir singing and the leadership of such groups. After that, each choir sung a few songs from its repertoire.
Twenty singers from Rijeka participated in the seminar and presented themselves with three songs. The music band from Lipovljani made the evening even more pleasant, accompanying some choirs, and playing dance music after the official program. The singers from Rijeka came back home late that night, in a good singing mood and with beautiful impressions and memories of the event.
