"Riječke Ribice" at international festival "Folklore without borders"
The folk dancing ensemble "Riječke Ribice" stayed in Czech town of Ostrava on August 13 – 17, 2005 , at the invitation of the director of Ostrava international festival "Folklore without Borders" Ms. Katerina Macečkova. Accompanying the dancers on their trip to Ostrava were their leader Snjezana Husak, the president of Czech Beseda Rijeka Fanyka Husak, and Mrs. Maria Dmejchal who takes care of their costumes.
Ribice and their escorts were guests of the Festival organization board and Folklore ensemble Hlubina, as well as of their "old friends," mayors of Ostrava municipalities. They were welcomed and hosted by: mayor of Moravska Ostrava and Privoz Mr. Lubomir Karpisek, mayor of Vitkovice Mr. Petr Kutej, and mayor of Marianske Hory and Hulvak senator Liana Janackova. The dancers from Rijeka stayed in Poruba, and also visited the municipality of South Ostrava .
The Rijeka dance ensemble had five performances: on the Poruba square, on Jirasek square in the downtown area, at the Janacek conservatorium hall, in retirement home in South Ostrava, and in Children and Youth Home in Marianske Hory. All performances were very successful, reaping excites applause from their audiences, as well as recognitions of choreographers and dancers of other ensembles. Ribice also received the invitation from Mr. Josef Langer, a member of Czech Folklore Union, to perform at the Olomouc festival next year. Their performances stood out also because of the fact that, besides the Croatian dances, they also danced some Czech traditional dances, while other ensembles only performed dances from their home countries.
The president of Czech Beseda Rijeka had the opportunity to speak about Czech Beseda Rijeka and Riječke Ribice on Czech television and at the collective performance of all participating ensembles. She also reminded of the friendship of Czech people of Rijeka with mayors of Ostrava municipalities, who provided great help with building the Czech Culture Centre through their contributions in money and building iron. This was the second time the Czech people of Rijeka visited them in Ostrava .
